April 20/2022 Kristin: welcome and meeting brought to order; introduced the Board members Magnet with key dates provided to attendees, if you missed meeting reach out to Hillary and a magnet(s) can be made available Practices: • Times/age group are listed on magnet; • First practice 05/02 • Practices are every day, if child misses practice, they will not be penalized, but the more they attend the better they’ll be • 21/05 – time trials to determine events for swimmers; swimmers swim most events • Technique practice on M and W are not meant to be the only practice for your swimmer; supplements the other conditioning practices • Maintain distance between parents/siblings and coaches to give best opportunity for success; try to stay under the awning or on the grass outside the pool area Meets • 6 swim meets and “Champs”(07/23), in between there is other fun stuff; all kids get to come to Champs at Woodland, and there’s nothing to be worried about if they are first time swimmers. • 6yr and under - only swim three events, freestyle, backstroke, and a relay • Keep in mind there are 25 swimmers in each age group; often your child will only swim 3 or 4 events; every swimmer gets a chance to do the relays but it is different rotation every week • Relays are difficult at the younger ages, because breast stroke and fly are challenging at younger ages and they may be disqualified for improper form • Please speak to members of the TigerSharks Board with questions because they can get back to you faster; want to reduce the amount of direct questions to coaches • Must register for all meets using “Active.com” ; this is a process is initiated through Park and Rec so need to wait until everyone is final and paid in order for you to get an invite. • Check-in for ALL meets is 7am, regardless of location. • Double check-in system: Swimmer checks in with coaches, parents check-in with Hillary • Encouragement necklace with beads - when they beat their time, they go to the PR tent to ring a bell and get a bead for their necklace to emphasize personal growth, competing against your personal best. • Hospitality-at meets Hillary will send an email with instructions and what you need to bring for your child/age group; whatever you bring, you drop it off at hospitality. • We do not do a snack bar, so please bring your own ice-chest with your own food to the meets. There will be a taco/quesadilla truck available; Kona Ice will be available • Volunteering is required so that there is balance for all parents to be able to watch some of the meets and support the community. o Buy-outs will not be available this year. You will be required to volunteer at every meet your child is in, if you cannot volunteer for extraordinary circumstances, please speak to Hillary and she will figure out a way for you to contribute. o Volunteer positions discussed o Stroke and Turn – if you are interested in volunteering for this, they would like you to attend a one-time training so you can participate in this judging. Dates will be provided. Orangevale Tigersharks Swimmer and Parent Handbook can be downloaded here Regrettably, the MOC meet will be postponed again until next summer (2022). It just isn’t feasible to bring in so many athletes and teams from multiple counties across the region to one pool deck. We’re eager to bring back an exciting and memorable MOC meet next year!
We know how important it is for swimmers to qualify for MOCs every summer. The qualifying times are a great goal to set and it’s always a major accomplishment when a time standard is achieved. Although there won’t be an MOC meet this summer, we’ve gone ahead and updated our MOC qualifying times for the 2021 swim season, and made some new changes. In honor of the Olympics, we’ve updated our MOC qualifying times to include a Bronze, Silver, and Gold time standard for each event. Bronze time standards are essentially the 2021 MOC qualifying times, silver times are equivalent to a top 10 finish, and gold times are equivalent to a top four finish. A 2021 Meet of Champions Certificate for each time standard will be available to download from our website for free (coming soon). At the end of the season, we'd like to publish on our website all the names of the athletes who reach a time standard this summer. Good luck with your summer season and we’ll see you again in 2022 for the 20th Meet of Champions! Kristin Hurd OVTS Board President ovtspresident@gmail.com Hello and Happy New Year!
We hope that 2021 finds you safe and healthy during this unprecedented time. We know that several of our TigerShark families have lost loved ones to Covid-19 and our thoughts are with you. We are looking toward the end of this pandemic with strong hopes, and expectations, to be back to normal for our 2021 swim season. Since you swam with us in 2020, your swimmer is eligible for early registration which begins on Monday, January 11th. We strongly recommend that you take advantage of this early registration as our age groups do tend to fill, some even in January. The park and rec office is not asking for a very big deposit to reserve your spot this year, $10 per swimmer, and the board has decided to wait to request your parent deposit until April. Once we are 100% sure the season will go as planned, we will request a $75 parent deposit but that is not needed at this time. The District Office may be closed to walk-ins due to the current guidelines in place at the time of registration. Please contact the District Office via email, info@ovparks.com, or phone 916-988-4373, for further details or current enrollment options. As always, please feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions or concerns. Stay safe. Thank you, Kristin Hurd OVTS Board President ovtspresident@gmail.com (970) 372-7999 (cell) As we near the end of our first session of swimming, it’s time to celebrate our coaches! Let’s take this week, August 3 - August 7, to show our coaches some love. Check your email for documents that each coach has filled out detailing their likes and dislikes. I also encourage your swimmer to make a card or note for their coach as that is always appreciated. The coaches don’t know that we are celebrating them this week so it will be a surprise starting Monday!
Below you will find a signup genius link. Please check it out. We can have more than 3 items per coach/day but I want to be sure that each coach has something each day of the week so please sign up if you plan to participate! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0B4EAEAB22ABF49-coach Also the Record Board Stats from 2019 have been posted under "Meet Results" Congratulations to our record breakers!! Thank you and let me know if you have any questions! Kristin Hurd OVTS Board President TigerSharks Families,
At this moment, OVparks is still waiting for the State and County to allow reopening of public swimming pools. We do not have a date for this, since it depends on how quickly our area is able to move through the necessary phases of reopening. The season has NOT been cancelled. We are still hoping to offer participants a chance to swim, however this will depend on when pools are able to open and what kind of social distancing restrictions are required. We always want to ensure we can keep our swimmers and families safe and healthy. We are grateful for your patience during this process. We will email you when we have any news about practices or adjustments. If you would prefer to remove your children from the program at this time, please contact us for a full refund. Sincerely, OVparks Staff (916) 988-4373 info@ovparks.com Happy New Year!
We hope you had a safe and fun holiday. It’s now 2020 and we are looking forward to another great swim season featuring new Head Coach, Andrew Murch! Returning families who completed their volunteer hours in 2019 are welcome to pre-register beginning Monday 1/6, at 8:30am. Please be patient with our office staff as they support our registration process. We have asked them to have you complete the tablet form so we have your correct email. This is essential for my communication, calendar updates, and registering for meets. We have tried to streamline the tablet as much as possible so we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as you complete it. For any new families that would like to join the team, they are welcome to register after February 3rd. See you soon! Kristin, OVTS Board President * Sunday, July 21st - Family Relays at 5pm
** Bring a picnic lunch and join us for family relays! As a reminder, relays are 4 swimmers. You are welcome to participate or have your kids grab friends or coaches to swim. (As a child, my parents were not swimmers but we attended family relays each year and I loved swimming with my friends and brother against other friends.) ** Relay sign-ups will be on the bulletin board on Sunday for you to choose which relays you’d like to swim. * Saturday, July 27th - Championships at ARC ** Check-in for Champs is typically at 6:30am. ** This meet includes all 7 teams in our league. We come together to compete and determine who the best team is! We’ve come in second for the last several years and this could be our year! ** You must signup to volunteer in advance. The other teams are counting on us having our positions filled. With so many teams, we have many options. * Sunday, July 28th - Awards at 5pm on the pool deck ** Your swimmer will be recognized for their achievements this season. ** If you would like to thank a specific coach, they love receiving a note of thanks. ** Bring a picnic dinner to enjoy during awards. ** Cake will be provided by the board. The team is headed to Sunsplash on July 3rd! Join us for night slide, BBQ dinner, and unlimited drinks!
